A 60-km cycle route, which runs along the River Tiber from Città di Castello to Perugia, following the model of the most famous cycle routes in Europe. An easy and completely flat route that alternates between its recently built sections and low-traffic secondary roads immersed in nature.

A short break, a weekend to get away from everyday life, where you can discover the beauties of Città di Castello and Perugia along with an unusual and less frequented area of ​​Umbria. A perfect mix of rural landscapes and artistic beauties, suitable for all those who like to travel slowly and visit unspoilt places.

The itinerary develops from Città di Castello to Perugia following the course of the Tiber river, alternating along sections of dirt road to sections of asphalted road with low traffic. A very easy route, therefore ideal also for beginners and families with children.

The route is almost completely flat and in total 65 kilometers, which we offer you divided into two stages, easy and fascinating. If you have a little ‘more training, once you get to Ponte San Giovanni you can ride a bike to the historic center of Perugia, facing a climb of about 5 kilometers, with a little’ traffic. Otherwise you can opt for using public transport, but in any case we recommend a visit to the historic center of Perugia, including an extra night. The Etruscan arch, the San Pietro and San Francesco al Prato complex, the National Gallery, the Palazzo dei Priori and the Fontana Maggiore, the many historic buildings, together with the numerous places where you can taste typical products and cultural events that animate the Umbrian capital, will be a worthy frame for the final day of this itinerary.

Day 1
Individual arrival in Città di Castello, the most important city of the Upper Tiber Umbro. The historic center is rich in artistic and cultural beauties, as well as museums and exhibitions. A small city, on a human scale, ideal to discover on foot or even by bike.

Day 2 – Città di Castello-Umbertide (30 km)
You will leave the historic center of Città di Castello and just outside the city you will already be on the Tevere dirt bike path heading south. Rural landscape and surrounded by nature that will lead you, after being re-entered for a few kilometers on the road, up to Umbertide.

Day 3 – Umbertide-Perugia (Ponte San Giovanni) (35km)
From Umbertide continue southwards following the course of the Tiber, between ancient farms, abbeys, small villages. The first part of the stage is on a beautiful secondary road, shaded and completely devoid of traffic. The second is on a dirt cycle path up to Ponte San Giovanni, on the outskirts of Perugia. Here you can decide whether to stop or arrive in the center facing 5 kilometers of fairly busy ascent. Alternatively, you can go downtown by train in just a few minutes. From Perugia you can quickly get back to Città di Castello by train.

You can get to Città di Castello through the Terni-Sansepolcro railway line http://www.umbriamobilita.it/it/accessibilita/orari-servizi-ferrovia-pdf.
By car
Depending on the places of departure there are various routes to reach Città di Castello. Coming from Rome, leave the A1 Autostrada del Sole at Orte and then continue on the E45 expressway towards Perugia-Cesena, Città di Castello exit (south, Santa Lucia, or north) Coming from the North (Bologna-Florence), the exit recommended from the A1 Autostrada del Sole is that of Arezzo, from where it continues with the SS 73 and 221.
