There was a project that had transformed the Upper Tiber Valley into a true destination for cycling enthusiasts. It was called Discovery & Bike in Alto Tevere, an initiative designed to showcase the territory through cycling routes of varying difficulty, revealing breathtaking landscapes, charming villages, and unmissable natural areas in Umbria.

An Invitation to Explore the Territory on Two Wheels

The goal was clear: to promote the beauty of Alto Tevere to anyone wishing to explore the region by bike, whether for outdoor vacations or simple day trips.

The project included routes suitable for every level of experience, with stops immersed in nature, stunning scenery, and the opportunity to ride along quiet roads, bike paths, and scenic trails.

Routes for Every Taste

Among the most appreciated options were several itineraries with unique characteristics:

Ā The Sasso Waterfalls

This short ride started from Piazza delle Tabacchine, in the heart of CittĆ  di Castello, and followed the Tiber cycle path, passing through the Spada Lakes Natural Park and climbing toward the medieval village of Montone. Gravel paths and gentle climbs made it perfect for those wanting a first taste of biking in Umbria.

Waters and Hills

A route alternating asphalt roads and cycle paths, allowing participants to admire streams, green hills, and take refreshing breaks at local cafƩs.

Ā Scarzola Tour

A longer, panoramic route that passed through ancient villages such as Celle, Pezzano, and Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, revealing unique historical and scenic views.

Ā Themed Itineraries

There were also more challenging routes like Pedaling to the Sky, which crossed the Apennine hills, and gentler, family-friendly tours, such as the Tiber cycle path with scenic stops along the way.

More Than Just a Bike Adventure

Discovery & Bike in Alto Tevere was not just a collection of routes: it was also a cultural and educational project. During its implementation, thematic meetings were organized for tourism operators, restaurateurs, accommodations, and anyone interested in developing the bike tourism offer in the area.

These meetings addressed topics such as:

  • improving bike-friendly facilities
  • integrating outdoor tourism with historical and artistic heritage
  • creating services for those exploring Umbria by bicycle Ā

Territory, Nature, and Stories to Discover

The Upper Tiber Valley offered more than breathtaking landscapes. Riding through its hills and valleys, participants encountered historical landmarks, medieval villages, ancient bridges, and charming spots.

These rides turned into mini journeys through history, culture, and local gastronomy, creating lasting memories for those who experienced them.

A Legacy of Discovery and Passion

Even though Discovery & Bike in Alto Tevere was not a competitive event, it served as an invitation to slow down, explore, and rediscover the joy of moving through a territory full of surprises. Along ancient roads, nature trails, and villages to explore, every ride told a different story.
