Cycling along the
Old Railway and the Nera Greenway
A three-day proposal in one of the most beautiful areas of Umbria, combining the artistic and cultural beauty of Spoleto and villages like Sant’Anatolia, Scheggino, Ferentillo, and Arrone, with the unspoiled nature of the Valnerina, before concluding in front of the stunning spectacle of the Cascata delle Marmore (Marmore Falls). You will cycle along the evocative route of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway, in the section from Spoleto to Sant’Anatolia di Narco—the most abundant in viaducts and tunnels—and then onto the Greenway section that runs along the Nera River, taking you to the Falls while remaining completely traffic-free.
Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to Spoleto
Individual arrival in Spoleto. The historic center is rich in artistic and cultural beauty, made famous in recent years by the filming of the TV show “Don Matteo.” Furthermore, it offers entertainment opportunities like festivals, shows, and exhibitions throughout the year. It’s a city built on a human scale, ideal for discovering on foot or by bike, and an optimal starting point for our tours. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Spoleto - Castel San Felice (20km)
A truly evocative itinerary that allows you to cycle along the route of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway, tackling tunnels and viaducts that will take you into the green heart of the Valnerina. The first part of the stage is uphill, while the second is downhill. The gradients are never too challenging. Overnight stay.
Day 3: Castel San Felice - Marmore Falls (30km)
A route that alternates between asphalt and dirt road, running along the Nera River, immersed in the nature of the Valnerina and far from traffic. You will pass through the villages of Sant’Anatolia di Narco, Scheggino, Ferentillo, and Arrone before arriving at the Cascata delle Marmore, with entrance to the park included.
